Beginning in August 2005, The Seniors Around Town (SAT) program has been providing alternative transportation for Orinda seniors who are no longer able to drive and who may not qualify for the County Connection LINK system. The SAT program offers ease of use, no cost to riders, door-to-door transportation to all eligible Orinda senior residents. Orinda volunteer drivers using their own personal vehicles provide rides to doctors’ appointments, errands and social events in the Lamorinda, Berkeley and Walnut Creek areas, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9am and 4pm.
Upon a completed registration, a senior can call our office with a reservation. We require one week notice. Our staff will find an available driver who will contact the rider directly for that ride request. Call us today at 925-402-4506 to set up an in-office appointment and learn more about how SAT might work for you or a loved one. In addition, riders will be invited to the following events throughout the year: 4th of July reserved seating, Opera in the Park, and our annual holiday luncheon
Orinda Volunteer drivers are always needed. As a volunteer you decide how often and how far you are willing to drive. The rewards from this service are tremendous; our riders are so grateful to have this option which allows them to continue to live independently. All of our volunteer drivers must complete a thorough DMV and criminal background check along with an interview and orientation. Call us today at 925-402-4506 to set up an in-office appointment and learn more about volunteering with SAT. In addition, drivers will be invited to events throughout the year: a volunteer luncheon for drivers and the annual holiday luncheon.
SAT receives generous community support from proceeds of the annual Orinda Classic Car Show. Click here for information about the annual event.
