For Dog and Animal Lovers! CNN Hero Award Recipient

Royal Marine Sergeant Pen Farthing Founder of Nowzad Dogs, Author, and 2014 CNN Hero Award recipient

While serving in Now Zad, Afghanistan, in 2006, Royal Marine Sergeant Pen Farthing broke up an organized dog fight. One of the dogs became the four-legged buddy of the Royal Marines stationed in Now Zad. So began Pen’s quest to rescue and improve the welfare of animals in Afghanistan through the nonprofit he founded, Nowzad (www.nowzad.org).

Pen, recipient of the 2014 CNN Hero award and the author of three books--One Dog at a Time, No Place Like Home and Wylie--is coming to Lafayette. He will share the difficulties and rewards of working in a country where dogs are not considered "man’s best friend," and the Taliban remain a threat .
